New Approaches to Integrated Energy Systems and Grid Modelling

In energy economic research, energy systems models are used for analysing long-term trends in the development of the energy system. Hence, these models form the basis for strategic entrepreneurial or political decisions and are becoming increasingly important in the energy sector. In the course of the expansion of renewable energy sources (RES), grid modelling approaches are becoming especially relevant.
In the project “New Approaches to Integrated Energy Systems and Grid Modelling" suitable mathematical models and efficient numerical algorithms are developed, which allow for taking AC load flows in the transmission grid into account in energy systems modelling. The aim is a decoupling of the non-linear AC model from the linear or mixed-integer economic optimisation, which can be treated in separated calculations with iterative exchange of information.
