Details
As a result of the energy transition, weather and climate are becoming increasingly important for the electricity system. The reason for this is the large-scale expansion of the two weather-dependent technologies photovoltaics and wind power. However, demand is also influenced by the weather, especially the temperature. Understanding these weather influences is important for a reliable and secure energy supply. One way of investigating the relationship between weather and the energy system is to use so-called weather regimes. Weather regimes are quasi-stationary atmospheric circulation patterns in the mid-latitudes that are recurring. Due to their longevity and large-scale nature, they influence the ground weather on a continental and multi-day to weekly scale. Since the weather regimes are related to wind, solar radiation and temperature on the ground, they also have an influence on the energy system.
In order to analyze how weather regimes can be used in the energy context and what the current state of research is, a systematic literature review is to be carried out. The following questions are of particular interest: What conclusions can be drawn from weather regimes to the energy system? What methods are used for this? How can predictions be realized? What are the potentials and limitations?
Interest in the interface between meteorology and energy system analysis and in interdisciplinary literature research.
